Its raining in Spain

Well, a lot has happened since the last time I wrote on my blog. With the funeral and all its dashing about over, another drama unfolds. One by one in the family has been diagnose with glaucoma. Nobody is blind yet, thank god for that, but it has caused shock waves to ripple through the family grape vine. So we all went to check.

Edwin has the beginnings of this dreadful disease so eye drops has to be religiously applied for the rest of his life to arrest its development. The others have it worst so they too have to put on eye drops everyday for the next 30 odd years or more. The only person who actually has healthy eyes is my mother in law who is 86. She only had cataract which has since been removed so, her eyesight is better than all of combined. What a laugh! They dont make eyes like they used too. Now its all made in China.

I went for my 1st checkup on Friday last week in KK. Nothing wrong with my eyes as far as I know, apart from shortsightedness. Well, well, What do you know? No cataract. Hurray! No glaucoma. Double hurray! But, there was a tear in my retina. A slight tear but with time and if unattended to would eventually get bigger. The end result is retina detachment. The curtains come down and you see nothing at all. So I had it lasered closed there and then. A simple procedure which took about 2 mins....zap! zap!

And RM800 later the hole is no more. But new holes can appear as my eyeballs are stretched due to my long sightedness of -12 and -11. So I will have to make sure I visit the good doctor once a year. There goes my shopping money...hehehe. Guess its better a tear than glaucoma huh? The lesser of the two evils. What else can tear??

This doesnt mean I am clear of cataract though. The doctors said that most people have cataract, its only a matter of when. God willing, mine wont appear till I am 70. So if you havent checked your eyes yet and you are past 50, do go NOW.
